Your character's personality goes here. Pretty self-explanatory. Be sure to keep an even balance and cover your character's strengths and flaws. We WILL be checking for consistency, and compatibility with canon portrayals. We welcome you adding your own interpretations and twists, but we don't want a complete personality reversal. For OCs (and Nyos), we will also be critically examining your personalities and whether it fits with the country's history and culture. The requirement here is three paragraphs, but you are welcomed and encouraged to write more. |
Biographical |
Mihai was born to a father he has no memories of, and a mother who lingers only in the form of soft skin, lullabies, and the smell of antiseptic. What he has been told: His father was a carpenter. He smelt of sawdust and glue, but he was a happy man who was very much in love with Lucia. He proposed to her on a river cruise, and she accepted, even though his income was subpar and her own job as a teacher was increasingly non-lucrative. But they took a leap of faith, and they were happy. In fact, less than a year later, Lucia was pregnant with their first child. (That was him.) She gave birth with little complication, and for awhile, things were well. They laughed, they loved, but four years later it fell apart. His mother used to tell him that it was an automobile accident on a rainy evening. His father was on a motorcycle, and hadn't been wearing a helmet. He died on impact. His mother grieved but continued working for her own sake and for the sake of her young child. But bad things come in threes, and she soon fell sick with a chronic illness. She chose not to reside at the hospital right away, and for a year, she continued to teach to support herself and Mihai. It was only once her physical condition deteriorated irrevocably that she succumbed, was compelled to quit her job, and to take up residency at the hospital. She was left with a seven year-old son and a mounting pile of debts. What he remembers: White rooms and lights that are too bright. Antiseptic. Needles. A woman with amber eyes, and a smile that was the kindest in all the world. Those are his earliest memories. Later on, there was also a man. A dark-haired man with eyes that calculated. He was a doctor. Lucia's doctor. And he liked her beyond professional boundaries. So he made her an offer. If she married him, he could get her the best treatment possible and even foot her medical bills. He could become Mihai's legal guardian, and she wouldn't worry any longer about whether she could care for him. She accepted. She didn't love him, but he was a nice man, she said. A decent man. He proposed to her because he recognized their precarious situation and he had a way to protect them, and she was grateful for that. 'It isn't perfect,' she used to say. 'But at least we can be together.' Mihai was old enough not to like him, even after he moved into the man's house. It was bigger than any one he lived in, and under the man's care, he was presented with more commodities than he'd had before. Still, even understanding his mother's decision, he did not welcome the new intrusion in their lives. Resigned himself to it, perhaps, but he never fully embraced the shrewd and coldly practical new presence with whom he'd unceremoniously been thrust. But for his mother's sake, he maintained a cordial but distant relationship, which the man never tried to improve. His life stabilized after he was taken in, and he soon began his schooling in earnest. An outgoing boy with a subtle sort of charm, he made many friends in school and was often invited out. He accepted them blithely, preferring to be out of the house as often as possible. He had a good social life, yet he left much information about himself unspoken. It wasn't that he was ashamed—rather, he cared very much for his mother, but he rarely found the initiative to talk about his private life to anyone, replying rather vaguely to inquiries after his family. Although his social life was successful, he spent the most time in the hospital with his mother. Without prior engagements, it was where he headed every day after school, and he became such a regular visitor that the nurses and doctors knew him by name. He would sit for hours by her bedside, telling her about his day, reading, doing homework. He did nearly everything she requested and achieved stellar grades. However, more than academics, his curiousity compelled him to learn a little about the medical practice, mostly concerning different illnesses, treatments and medicines. His second refuge, once visiting hours were over, was the computer. He took to the device immediately once he had been provided one for personal use, even though the model was rather old and rather slow to work with. He took to using social networks, but preferred to remain on the sidelines more often than not. It was there he first heard about "hacking," but things turned sour before he could discover more specifics. When he was in his fifth year of school, his mother's health took a turn for the worst. She suffered multiple relapses, her illness' sudden gravity an unprecedented change for the doctors. They soon declared her condition to be terminal. Later, unbeknownst to himself, Mihai would classify his childhood into three stages—three Bad Things. His father's death, his mother's sickness, and the grey, mourning day in May and the first and last time he remembers crying. That summer, they moved to France, and Mihai started secondary school in an unfamiliar country. He faced great difficulties adjusting, having had little instruction in the French language, and still learning to bear with the grief of his mother's passing. The effect was compounded by his lack of friends or other figures he trusted, and during this period he grew increasingly withdrawn and solitary. The other students took little interest in him at first, and he made no enemies until he punched a classmate after the other made a disparaging comment. After that, it appeared as though he completely lost interest in school. Some days, he'd merely lock himself in his room, staying on the computer late into the night. His grades plummeted, and the days he did go to school he almost inevitably ended up in a fight. For the first time since they'd met, he had an argument with his stepfather. Perhaps for the first time ever, he had nowhere to turn. His only alternative was non-human. He spent increasing time on the internet, and out of curiousity, he looked up the specifics of hacking. He tried it on a few websites, then in a fit of inspiration, he hacked into his school's server and tweaked a few of his grades. With that small boost, he set out to accomplish a new objective: to get a higher end computer. He ignored those who tried to get a rise out of him at school and he improved his grades, and at the opportune moment, asked his stepfather for a new laptop. With a higher salary and better appreciation for Mihai's schoolwork, he agreed. (And mysteriously, anyone who had bothered Mihai before failed the year.) |
Physical |
To start with the basics, Mihai's hair is a shade of light auburn (bordering blond and brown), and its style seems best described as "shaggy." It tends to be obvious when he hasn't brushed it. His eyes are amber, which can look red under specific lighting, but the only way to ensure that they're permanently such a color would be to wear contacts like any other normal person. He doesn't like contacts however, claiming that they irritate his eyes and mess with his vision (besides, it's not like he needs them anyway). Physically, he stays as fit as he needs to. Considering his main occupation involves computers and not a whole lot of running around, he does the minimum to stay healthy. This usually involves a jog in the evening (which he skips out on sometimes), but he figures he should be physically prepared to at least outrun some people, just in case. That said, he isn't exactly an athlete either, so he has a little bit of excess fat around his stomach. It seems like the only thing he doesn't need to train is his flexibility, which he has naturally had since childhood. Doing the splits is something he can accomplish easily, regardless of how much time it's been since he last practiced. Mihai has several tattoos on his body. This begins on his back and wraps over his right shoulder, onto his chest, in a design similar to this. He also has a simple design on his left arm and this on the back of his right calf. In addition, he has some visible piercings on his person. There are two on his left ear, one on his right, and an eyebrow piercing over his right eye. Rather than having a "fang-like" tooth as in canon, he has snake bites. And as for whether he has more piercings that are not typically visible, that is classified information. |
Résumé |
Curriculum Vitae |
And the part everyone has been looking forward to—the RP sample (haha). This should be as though you were writing for an RP (in other words, third person and from your character's perspective), and should take place in the past. This needs to be a minimum of 500 words, and your choices of prompts are: a turning point or a revealing moment. This prompt was chosen specifically so that you could augment your character's backstory in his or her own words and bring that one vital moment to life. This can also serve as a way to begin to delve into your character's psyche for this specific AU, and hopefully, it can be fun and constructive for you too. |
Preferences | |
Likes | Dislikes |
Write the likes of your character that you think are important (i.e. it often affects how your character behaves or affects how they behave towards other people). For example, if your character is a connoisseur of music and plays the flute as a hobby, feel free to add that in. If it's something inconsequential like your character liking red velvet cake, then you don't have to write that. There is no required number of likes. You are free to use your own judgment to decide what is important. An elaboration of a few sentences should be included if you do put down any likes. If you find yourself pulling likes out of nowhere, you probably don't want to include them. | Write the dislikes of your character that you think are important (i.e. it often affects how your character behaves or affects how they behave towards other people). For example, you might add that your character is strongly affected by ethnic slurs and will lash out against people who use them. If it's something inconsequential like your character disliking celery, then you don't have to write that. There is no required number of dislikes. You are free to use your own judgment to decide what is important. An elaboration of a few sentences should be included if you do put down any dislikes. If you find yourself pulling dislikes out of nowhere, you probably don't want to include them. |
Weaknesses | Aspirations |
Here is where your character's weaknesses go. By this I don't just mean personality faults, but rather traits or things that can be used against your character. This includes personality faults and, naturally, fears. Is your character susceptible to bribes? Will your character drop everything if his or her family is threatened? Do heights make your character feel sick? Again, put down what you think is important, and elaborate on what is written. There is no required number of weaknesses, so don't feel like you need to make them up on the spot. | This space is for your characters aspirations. Call it what you will—aspirations, goals, dreams—these are things your character wants to accomplish. It can range anywhere from being rich and famous to finding true love and settling down to have a family. They can be short-term or long-term. Just keep in mind that these are goals your character should be working towards throughout the role-play. Whether or not they succeed is up to you. At risk of sounding like a broken record, put down what you think is important and elaborate on it. There is no required amount of aspirations, so don't feel like you need to make them up on the spot. |

Identities | Skill-Set |
♠ Mercury | Hacker. Meaning both a highly toxic element and the Roman patron god of travelers, thieves, and orators (among others), this is the name he uses in his cybercrime circle. This identity is behind a good number of well-publicized corporate security breaches in the past decade, and is widely known and wanted by cybersecurity experts. ♠ Mitchell T. Warner | Freelancer. This is his main source of income. He often does freelance work for small businesses under this name, including building websites and programming security. Of course, he always leaves a back door for himself, just in case one should be needed. ♠ He also has many additional identities that he uses once, then discards. These aliases are typically for jobs that require a little bit more of a hands-on sort of work, including stealing passcodes and manually implanting viruses and wires. These missions are rare because of the risk factor, and always conducted with the support of his cybercrime circle. | Here, you may write anything you consider notable about your character's skills that weren't mentioned. This is where you want to put multilingual abilities, acting abilities, pick-pocketing, parkour, shooting, etc. etc. Anything you think may come in handy in your character's role may be noted here. If this isn't applicable, leave it blank. |
Moral Compass | Other |
Any sort of job your character refuses to take can be listed here. If your character will do absolutely anything for the right price, leave this blank. | ♠ His totem is a lighter. It's broken and only works in dreams. |
Out-of-Character |
