An Extraction team is a team of dreamers hired to extract, or take out, information from someone's mind. Though the only necessary roles for a general Extraction team are Extractor, Point, and Architect, many other roles come into play as well. The easiest way to describe these roles is to relate them to a type of team seen often in reality: movie production.
Extraction Team
The Extractor - The Director
The Extractor is the head of the operation. While it is not entirely up to them to prepare in a way that makes the job run smoothly, it is their job to be on top of the other members. Similar to a Director of movies, the Extractor takes charge and gives others directions. In dream, it is the Extractor's job to get the information from the Mark in any means possible, so long as the team is not compromised.
The Point Man/Woman - The Producer
The role of a Point Man or Woman is one of the most dangerous. Those that take this role are often heavy in logic for the sake of safety. It is up to them to foresee any potential obstacles that could compromise the team and the job, to research the Mark in depth, and ensure the safety of all participants. Point (Wo)Men sometimes take great risks to their own safety in order to secure the success of the job, and often they get their hands on important information through unconventional (dangerous) means. Their job is very similar to the Producer of movies, making sure all runs smooth. In-dream, the Point (Wo)Man is usually the one to take the hit should things go wrong, in order to keep the Extractor dreamside so that the job may be completed.
The Architect - The Production Designer
The Architect designs the dreamscape. This involves a highly creative and open mind. The main purpose of the Architect is to create labyrinths. These elaborate mazes serve as an escape route for the dreamers if the job is compromised and the projections converge. The Architect is entrusted to design these mazes, and if they do not go down in the dream, they teach the layout to either the Extractor or Point (Wo)Man. Like a production designer, they are creating the stages of the dream.
The Forger - The Actor
Though not necessary for the simple jobs, more complicated ones sometimes require a Forger. Forgers are widely known for their ability to perfectly duplicate an object. It works the same way in the dream world, but instead of forged passports or IDs, Forgers don the appearances of different people. They are the actors of dream share. They take a guise of a seemingly random person or someone that is close to the Mark. When preparing for a job, the Forger gets closest to the Mark before the dream. They then study their target—often someone very close to the Mark—and take note of appearance and clothing, behavior and habits. In the dream, the Forger then "puts on" their costume and is able to fool the Mark into thinking they are the actual person.
